Project Description ~ Peppermint
Peppermint is a cashless payment platform designed for membership clubs and events, enabling users to make fast, secure payments through a mobile experience. My role focused on designing a Progressive Web App (PWA) that allows users to seamlessly access Peppermint on mobile and complete payments directly through Apple Wallet. The goal was to create a frictionless mobile experience that feels intuitive and reliable in high-traffic, real-world environments.
Problem
Peppermint needed a mobile solution that could:
Enable fast, reliable payments in busy event and club environments
Eliminate friction caused by traditional payment methods
Feel native on mobile without requiring a full App Store download
Support Apple Wallet payments seamlessly
Be easy to use for first-time users in time-sensitive situations
Design Solution
After research and collaboration, the PWA mobile app was designed around the following principles:
~ Clarity First - Every screen was designed to communicate to users clearly. Users can instantly understand what to do next whether it’s adding a pass, viewing balance, or completing a payment.
~ Mobile-First PWA Experience - I designed the app specifically as a PWA, ensuring it feels lightweight, fast, and accessible on mobile devices without the friction of app downloads.
~ Apple Wallet Integration - The experience was designed to work seamlessly with Apple Wallet, allowing users to add their Peppermint pass and complete payments with minimal steps.
~ Streamlined User Flow - User journeys were simplified to reduce taps and decision points.
~ Clean, Functional UI - The interface prioritises readability, strong visual hierarchy, and touch-friendly elements, ensuring ease of use.
~ Prototyping & Testing - Interactive prototypes were created to validate payment flows, edge cases, and user understanding before development.
Outcome
Designing Peppermint’s PWA mobile app reinforced the importance of speed, clarity, and context in payment experiences. This project pushed me to think beyond screens and consider real-world environments — how people move, how quickly they need to act, and how little time they have to think.
